I am a university student at STFX taking Education in hopes of one day becomming my dream job as a teacher. For my Inclusion class we were asked to read this blog and respond to a post that grabbed my attention. This post really grabbed my attention and allowed me to think in a different perspective in regards to fundraising for cripples and illnesses. I am not a cripple, but like you said cripples are brilliant and smart and talented at things that I am not, and I am brilliant and smart and talented in other things. So because one of my weaknesses may be math, there isn't a run or a fundraiser for people that aren't smart in math. So I understand why these runs make you self conscious. However I just want to ask you a question, would you rather there be no fundraising, or runs, or walks, or pledges for you and Muscular Dystrophy? All of these gimmicks are the product of people who know a lot about marketing and PR. The people who run these organizations, medical people, scientists, social workers and such don't have PR or marketing skills, so they turn that all over to the marketing and PR people. But they may know know a thing about actually being disabled, so they just high five each other over their clever ideas and wordplays, without really asking what messages they are sending. And the number one criteria for any of these campaigns is always how much money they will raise. How it makes disabled people feel is a very low priority.apulranghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16133974049950425863noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5512974252421215566.post-72525784409991642122015-11-18T15:05:49.243-06:002015-11-18T15:05:49.243-06:00In Slidell, Louisiana, there is a Memory Walk to r...In Slidell, Louisiana, there is a Memory Walk to raise funds for Alzheimer's patients.
